An interview with the author

Jennifer is an active, top-producing residential REALTOR in Nashville, Tennessee.

Jennifer Turberfield

Q: What inspired you to create this book?

My inspiration for the book came from a recognition that I simply didn't know what the residential features and design elements were called. I looked everywhere for a resource to help me but couldn't find anything. I wanted something made just for real estate agents, which included all the features I was seeing on a daily basis but without a ton of technical data I didn't need.

Q: How did you decide what to include and what to leave out?

I definitely drew upon my own career as a agent with 12+ years experience in terms of getting the balance right between enough information but not too much. All the 'Did You Knows?' in the book were things I originally didn't! There are so many elements to the role of real estate agents, I wanted to create a super helpful resource which would make everyone's lives easier while increasing our knowledge and expertise.

Q: What's next?

I'm already working on the accompanying book which will go hand in hand with this one - stay tuned!

Simon Thompson

Q: How did you create all the illustrations within the book?

Most were done in pencil, water color and ink. They were then scanned into the computer and completed digitally.

Q: Which chapters did you enjoy the most ...and the least?

The chapter on Architectural Styles was my favorite, closely followed by Tiles and Interior Lighting. For some bizarre reason, some of the Counter tops were quite difficult, as were Ceilings and Landscape Styles also took quite a while.

Has your art and style changed during the course of your career?

My initial style after I finished art school was realistic and detailed. After I had a stroke in 2018, my style became much looser, more free and I wasn't so scared or annoyed if I made a mistake. Sometimes imperfection can actually improve a painting!
